The September Flash Career Fair Saw Major Success

The latest in a series of Flash Career Fairs took place at the Historic Carver Theater, and like all the ones before it, the fair saw tremendous success for locals seeking jobs in the tourism industry. We’re recapping September’s career fair below as we look forward to what the next Flash Career Fair has in store.

“Stable, Quality Employment”

Councilmember Jared C. Brossett of District D hosted the event and saw firsthand its importance for the community. “I know how difficult it can be for job seekers in today’s market, so I partnered with the New Orleans Convention & Visitors Bureau to deliver employment opportunities to my constituents and all New Orleanians,” Brossett said.

“Access to stable, quality employment is one of the greatest challenges facing New Orleans.” In addition to recruiters from local and national businesses, the career fair also featured resume counselors and job training experts. The fair attracted nearly 200 job seekers, Brossett said.

“The economic vitality of New Orleans depends on having a productive workforce,” he said, “and I am encouraged that so many job seekers are staying engaged in the process and are committed to obtaining economic self-sufficiency.”

A Who’s Who of Hospitality

The September Flash Career Fair brought out several employers from across the industry, including major hotels like the Sheraton New Orleans and museums like the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Audubon Institute.

Past Fairs, Current Jobs

We also caught up with Lauren Kaplan, the sales manager at Walk On’s restaurant, who participated in the July Flash Career Fair hosted by Councilmember Latoya Cantrell. According to Kaplan, Walk On’s hired two employees as a direct result of the career fair. Congratulations to all those who participated in previous fairs – they really do lead to career paths!
