When asked about Louisiana in particular, political pundits shared worry that voters – especially young voters – will not vote. Earlier this week, however, New Orleans residents turned out en masse to vote early, offering a sign of encouragement that while we know how to have fun, we are serious when it comes to politics.

For residents who have not yet voted, mark your calendars! Midterm elections are on Nov. 4: are you ready? Learn more about the election, and be sure to set aside time to vote.

Polls are open continuously from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., giving people plenty of chances throughout the day to go make a difference; not only in the local community but also on the national scale. In fact, a recent article suggests Louisiana voters could make an impact on the balance of the United States Senate – we truly hold the power!

If you’d like to familiarize yourself with the process, visit GeauxVote.com. This powerful website, a division of the Louisiana Secretary of State office, has all the tools you need to go to the voting both with confidence. Review a sample ballot, learn how candidates are elected, search for candidates, and sign up for election alerts via the GeauxVote app (usable on any smartphone or tablet). Additionally, you can read a summary of all of the ballot’s constitutional amendments, which can be difficult to understand without the guide.

The website also allows you to find the closest polling location searching by voter, address, or parish. You can also use the Google Voter Information Tool to find the nearest polling location for your parish and precinct.

To vote in any election, you’ll need to be registered. Registration has already passed for midterm elections, but you can always register to participate in future voting. If you’re already registered, great! Simply bring your driver’s license or photo ID to your designated polling location.
