It’s the holidays in New Orleans! Magic and music are in the air, especially at Christmas in the District and Miracle on Fulton Street.

Christmas in the District has already brought such life and light to Convention Center Boulevard in the Warehouse District with its beautiful light displays, but this Christmas celebration also features a special concert series, Concert at the Plaza, on Wednesdays leading up to Christmas Day, featuring some of the best in local music. This week’s live performance was from Rebirth Brass Band, and Wednesday, December 11 you can catch Flow Tribe, as well as A Swingin’ Christmas with the National WWII Museum’s Victory Bells who will be singing and dancing the night away on December 18.
Miracle on Fulton Street brings holiday fantasies to life on Fulton Street near Harrah’s New Orleans. The fun has already begun there, and you can enjoy a 30- foot Christmas tree, a larger-than-life Café du Monde Gingerbread House, holiday decorations, and events through January 6. There is plenty for the whole family to enjoy like taking photos with Santa and his reindeer, and a chance to make toys like the elves and decorate cookies in Santa’s Workshop. Grownups can also get cozy on Misteltoe Row, featuring festive cocktails, a la carte menu items, arts vendors, and fun photo ops. And there will be live music performances amidst it all two evenings a week leading up to Christmas Day.

The beauty of events like these in New Orleans, is that they really do double duty for the well-being of our city. We put our time, love, money and energy into things like Christmas in the District and Miracle on Fulton Street to bring joy to our local families and residents, and joy to the city on the whole. But special events also make a better experience for our visitors, and those are the things that continually grow our largest industry of tourism, which makes for important economic success for New Orleans during the holidays, and year round. When we welcome tourists into our celebrations and culture, we do ourselves a favor. It’s a cycle that works for us as a community; in the end, when we work to make our city better for ourselves, visitors keep coming, and through tourism, our success continues.
