The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC) is a museum, research center, and publisher dedicated to the stewardship of the history and culture of New Orleans and the Gulf South. THNOC is a collection of over 35,000 library items, more than two miles of documents and manuscripts, and over 350,000 photographs, prints, drawings, paintings, and other artifacts. The Collection is currently accepting resumes for the position of Director of Communications and Marketing.

The Director of Communications and Marketing manages all external THNOC communications and promotes clear internal communications to define and enhance public perceptions of THNOC, deliver key institutional messages, increase awareness of collections, exhibitions, and programs, and increase visitation on-site and engagement on-line. The Director advises the C.E.O., Director of Internal and External Relations and Director of Development in making strategic decisions regarding the public advancement of THNOC.

The Director implements strategies for marketing, advertising, media relations, public relations, and communications in accordance with our strategic plan. The Director supervises communications strategists and works with external marketing partners to plan, budget and implement all media, communications, and advertising for all THNOC activities including museum exhibitions, research access to collections, public programs, publications, and development. Inter- and cross-departmental collaboration, and external relationship management with community members, media partners, vendors, agencies, and graphic designers is integral to the Director’s role.

The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree, with a preference for a degree in English, communications, journalism, business or history. Qualified candidates must have the ability to research, write, and edit; to effectively adjust messages for different audiences; and to successfully use multiple platforms. Additionally, the successful candidate must be able to work on various projects simultaneously, be detail oriented, and meet deadlines. Familiarity with Associated Press Style and/or the Chicago Manual of Style, Adobe Creative Suite, and social medial platforms as well as knowledge of digital media and on-line communication are preferred.

This is a full-time position Monday through Friday. THNOC offers a competitive salary and a dynamic, educational culture.
