In a city known for its festivals, ESSENCE Festival is always a favorite. Happening June 30- July 3, ESSENCE Festival pairs incredible live music from artists like Mariah Carey and Kendrick Lamar with an empowering, free speaker series that includes guests like Misty Copeland, Tyra Banks, and Tina Knowles.

Held at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, ESSENCE also features areas called Superlounges where up-and-coming artists can perform. ESSENCE includes local talent like Trombone Shorty representing the city, plus even more ESSENCE activities happening at the Morial Convention Center. But – we’re most excited for Thursday, June 30, when ESSENCE teams with local entities for a volunteer day.

Day of Service Citywide Volunteer Event

On Thursday, July 2 from 9 a.m. to  2 p.m., volunteers can participate in the Day of Service, which focuses on achievement for local youth by promoting literacy and mentorship. Participants will volunteer at a local school and assist with service-based learning. It’s a great way to contribute to the community and support New Orleans youth. Grammy Award-winning artist Estelle is participating in this event (perhaps you’ll get to take a selfie with her?), and all participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt for their time.
