Expansions in New Orleans retail options have made it even easier to find just what we need (or maybe just what we want!). For those looking for something unique, Magazine Street encapsulates the quirky, artsy feel of New Orleans. The street extends for miles, and studded between restaurants, bars, and homes are plenty of shops to find a perfect gift for a loved one — or perhaps just a treat for yourself. Stop in at Fleurty Girl, Dirty Coast, or Defend New Orleans for city-specific finds, or paw through vintage photos at Magazine Antique Mall. What’s more, these shops are all locally owned and operated, contributing directly to our economy while also contributing to the path of a tourism dollar: after all, many visitors want to bring home souvenirs to remind them of New Orleans’ one-of-a-kind flair.
We love how even our malls create a custom, only-in-New Orleans experience. The Shops at Canal Place entices visitors with Saks Fifth Avenue, J.Crew, Anthropologie, and Lululemon alongside local offerings like Mignon Faget and Jean Therapy. Lakeside Mall features national stores in addition to local spa and shop EarthSavers and even a Café du Monde.
The French Quarter is our historic epicenter, and yet it’s also a retail destination. However, it offers more than just plenty of shops. During the holidays, the cobblestone streets and gas lamp-lit storefronts are even more magical: decorations such as lights and greenery create a festive atmosphere and memorable experience.
